Why we
no longer provide
access to the ZAPPER ARCHIVES

- Do to increased server storage expenses, we had to make a
tough choice and move the ZAPPER ARCHIVES
and ZAP•GALLERY off line. For a while, we
offered to distribute everything we had on file to readers on CD-Rom.
It greatly eased and sped up searches for various feature articles, the
Gallery, BBS postings, news headlines by using the file search
mechanism on a readers' own computer.

- Sadly, we had to withdraw our effort to provide copies of
the ZAPPER•Archives on CD-ROM... for a nominal
fee to those who could pay and free to those who could not.
Why? I discovered an aspiring pirate out there decided to
plagiarize the material, and copy much of what we provided in a book he
was publishing. I might have worked with him to give the material
a wider distribution if he had wanted to do this freely and not
charge people - as has been our policy since the first day of THE
ZAPPER went on line. Instead, this thief was
assembling this material only to generate an income for himself.
Not only did he not request our permission to do so or give proper
attribution, he committed a bigger crime by violating the privacy of
our readers who contributed their personal stories to our various
programs to help ICD recipients, their families, and professional
caregivers. He never once contacted any of the people to get
their approval, choosing to steal their words and present them as
though told to him. Plus, he never even notified them of his intention
to capitalize on their very personal and hard earned insights - to make
money for himself.
So, until we find a legal remedy to stop the greedy plagiarist and
figure out a way to protect the privacy of members of the ZAPPER
family... we have decided to abandon this branch of our mission.
